What is the Student Parent Council?
The Student Parent Council (SPC) is a group of Haley parents who are invested in both creating community and raising funds for the school. Any Haley parent can join the council. The Council is led by elected co-chairs, a treasurer, and a secretary. We invite all of you to be as involved as possible in school activities, parent council meetings, and special events. Please join us and get involved! We need your help. You do not need to be in an elected position to make a significant contribution!
What did the SPC do last year?
Throughout the year, the Parent Council sponsored several fundraising events that were essential to funding experiential learning opportunities for our children. Below are the events and the money that was raised:
- Book Fair/Coin Drive. $925.
- Fall Fest. $188
- Savers Donations Week/School Shopping Days. $664 West on Centre. $121
- Box Tops. $500
- World's Finest Chocolate. $2,425
- Parent Teacher Social $1,095
- Game Night. $338
- Spring Spectacular. $23,150
Total Raised $29,406
Where Does the Money Go?
Most of the money that the SPC raises goes toward experiential learning at the Haley (field trips, boat building). Every grade benefits from our efforts. Funds also go toward supporting the arts at the school (Theater, Music, and Art), Teacher Appreciation, and the 8th Grade Ceremony. The School relies on the Parent Council to raise over $30,000/year to keep this exceptional experiential curriculum going. Without the involvement of parents, these events can't be a success.
How can I get involved?
The SPC will host a number of activities and meetings throughout the year, and we invite you to come. Your contribution of time, no matter how small, makes our school a more vibrant place.
We are now seeking volunteers to be part of the following committees this year:
Election Day Bake Sale, Book Fair, Parent Teacher Social, Spring Spectacular, Grant Writing, Facilities/Grounds Improvement, Parent Engagement, Website. Sign up at the next SPC Meeting or by emailing us.
SPC meetings are typically held one night each month from 5:45-7:30pm in the school cafeteria (usually a Monday or Thursday). Childcare and pizza are provided. The first meeting of the year is Monday September 24 at 5:45. Free childcare and pizza for everyone.
